Magna to open plant, add manufacturing jobs in old Chrysler World HQ in Michigan

Magna International Inc., will open a seating components manufacturing facility into the former location of  Chrysler’s Global Headquarters in Highland Park, Michigan. Certain tax incentives need to be finalized , but it looks like it’s a done deal and Wayne County will add about 400 more jobs.

For those of you outside of Metro Detroit, Highland Park was a once-viable city but has become an eyesore with empty buildings, trash and overgrown weeds. It’s located between Detroit and majority of Automation Alley companies–a great location but downtrodden ever since Chrysler began slowly moving out to Auburn Hills 10-15 years ago.

Kudos to Wayne County executive, Robert Ficano for staying on top of this for the past few years and pushing for his county to bring back wealth-creating, manufacturing jobs.

I’ve always been curious and amazed at Magna International’s Chairman, Frank Stronach. If you don’t know about his life story, you should. His eclectic, unique–and sometimes heretically inspired life–just added another chapter.
