Indiana Tool and Die Co. Awarded Multi-year TACOM Contract

Press Release from Marion Tool

WEST TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Marion Manufacturing, a family, woman-owned business that provides precision machining services to the heavy equipment, aerospace and military markets, has been awarded a government contract to make military components for TACOM in Rock Island, Illinois. The contract is for a three year term valued in excess of $2.5 million.

Marion Manufacturing first bid for the project in June of this year. The award was given following an extensive facility and financial audit. Marion Manufacturing competed against 54 other companies throughout the United States. This was a Small Business Set Aside contract, and Marion Manufacturing met the guidelines by having fewer than 500 employees.

“It is exciting for us to receive this contract as it will allow us to keep our current workforce and create additional positions at a time when many manufacturers are laying people off,” stated Tammy Marion, President of Marion Manufacturing. The contract will require two shifts in the first year to complete the ordered components, with the possible addition of a third shift in year two of the contract. This contract will secure employment for a minimum of 9-10 positions.

Marion Manufacturing is working with other Indiana vendors purchasing castings from a Warsaw, Indiana foundry and heat treated materials from an Indianapolis supplier. “We remain dedicated to using other Indiana companies on projects we are awarded. This has always been our practice when a good source is available and we will continue to do so on this contract,” commented Marion.

Work has already started on the components and 33,000 assembled components have been ordered in the first year. The manufactured assembly will be used in small arms applications for the military.
