It's hard not to be skeptical when it comes to knowing what information we can trust–regardless of its source. The instant-gratification society we live in has caused 24-hour news channels, websites and blogs to constantly race to be the "first to report" without consequence. Not only does it cause innaccurcies but also fabrications in the truth undoubtedly driven by ulterior motives.
So, when a report came out in late October claiming Obama's Recovery Act creates foreign jobs; I knew to reserve judgement.
But when a U.S. Senator (Christopher "Kit" Bond, R-MO) is concerned about it enough to write a letter to Energy Secretary Steven Chu stating his concern about the reported 3,000 jobs potentially created in China based on U.S. federal stimulus money and tax credits, it's disheartening. Even more so, it may be a case of "Where there's smoke, there's fire."
Obama's Green Energy agenda touts better times ahead for U.S. manufacturers, including those in tooling, so why would Shenyang Power Group's incomprehensible windfall be funded by you and I?
It all revolves around the likely scenario of the Chinese company supplying hundreds of new 2.5 megawatt-wind turbines for a 36,000-acre wind-farm project in Texas.
I assume more Senators and elected officials do the right thing and speak up against this as Senator Bond has. I hope one of my personal favorites, Congressman Thaddeus McCotter (R-MI), would have something to say about this too. Another political supporter of American manufacturing is Michigan State Representative Kim Meltzer (R-Clinton Twp). Perhaps this will be a topic of discussion at our upcoming forum, Remaking Manufacturing Jobs, on November 17, 2009 at Macomb Community College
